Leticia Patterson, a 26-year-old tech support professional from Spanish Fork, Utah, enjoys reading, playing volleyball, spending time with her children, and playing board games.

Recently, Leticia was cooking when she began to feel dizzy. Her husband helped her to the couch, where she lost consciousness. After being transported by ambulance to a local acute care hospital, Leticia discovered she had experienced a stroke.

Leticia chose to receive specialized rehabilitative care at Central Utah Rehabilitation (CUR), a 22-bed rehabilitation unit in Utah Valley Specialty Hospital, because it was close to her parents’ house and her insurance covered the stay.

Upon her arrival at CUR, Leticia was unable to move the left side of her body. Her primary goal was to regain mobility on that side of her body and resume the daily activities she previously enjoyed. She worked with the hospital’s interdisciplinary healthcare team who created a customized treatment plan to help her reach her goals.

“Everyone here has been very kind and has helped me get back to the condition I was in before my stroke,” Leticia says. “Although my left side is a little weak, I’ve made significant progress and am still improving. I can move my left side and am able to walk with the assistance of a walker.”

After 14 days at CUR, Leticia was discharged to home. She says is pleased with her treatment and obtained the results she expected.
